Specialising in paint restoration and replicating original finishes

Our aim is to restore and preserve the original paintwork of English pine furniture. Where it's not possible to reach the original paintwork under the layers of historical repainting then we specialise in recreating the original patterns and designs.

Pine furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries was almost always painted - pine was rarely used as a 'show' wood. The fashion for stripped pine arrived in the early 70s and a huge number of good even important pieces were stripped of their original paint, We were lucky to be able to record some of these patterns

Many of these pieces are now covered in layers of later paint, but often underneath there is the original finish and patterns. Getting back to the original layer is tricky, layers of paint can often be carefully removed with a sharp chisel, as in the above image, but it's not always possible

There are a many very good pieces of furniture that have lost their original finishes. In some ways repainting them is a form of restoration if done sympathetically. Having seen so many patterns and decoration over the last 35+ years is a great advantage - we like to think we are giving these items a new chance in life!
